26. SÉVIGNÉ (Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, marquise de) - b. 1626, married Henry Marquis de Sévigné, 1644, widow 1651, her "letters" first printed in 1726, first authorised edition, 1734, d. 1696.

- A.L. 4 1/2 pp. 4to, 19 Nov. (1670), EXTREMELY RARE,

endorsed, "these letters are in the handwriting of Madame de Sévigné's and her daughter, and were given to Mrs Rosenhagen at Monaco, 1 Jan. 1781, by a lady of Madame de Sévigné's family as original: also a Note signed by Henry Grey Bennet, brother of the Earl of Tankerville, as follows: "given to me by my mother, the Countess Tankerville, and given by me to my beloved wifs Gertrude (daughter of Lord William Russell), May 18, 1816." The first half sheet of the letter appears to be in the handwriting of her daughter the Countess de Grignan.
